Seriously, what the fuck is the matter with them? Cell phones, ipods, laptops and everything in between should be completely acceptable. Sure, I get having to put our phones on vibrate during class, or not being able to talk on the phone while in the middle of a lesson plan, but not being able to fucking have them at all? Come the hell on. What possible danger does the office foresee that I'm missing here? Will god come down out of the heavens and smite us all for using electronics? No? Then what's the fucking problem?
Technology in Octorara is like just like Marijuana in the U.S. It's fucking harmless, but the leaders attack it like it's the fucking plague. Seriously, what harm can possibly come of sending a couple of texts during class? Fucking none. It's not even fucking distracting. And again, they treat electronics like the goddamn plague. The minuite they see one it's "PUT IT AWAY NOW!!!" or "Give it too me, or get a fucking in school suspension." Since when did using a device we own during class warrant a fucking suspension? That's absurd.
All the same, I can at least see where they are coming from with the whole "distraction" idea... When it's in lunch or a study hall, however, I seriously cannot think of a single fucking reason NOT to let us use these devices. What the fuck do you think we're going to do, call in our "school rule breaking friends" and have a goddamn party? Do you think we're going to listen to "corrupting" music that we downloaded our fucking selves and have already heard? There's absolutely NO reason NOT to let us use Ipod's, cellphones or computers while in study hall or lunch.
So, are the readers starting to pick up on a theme this blog has been creating? The school creates useless and authoritarian rules for absolutely NO reason at all. Any defense they can come up with, I assure you will NOT be adequate. They are doing this for reasons I can't even fathom.
Fuck 'em.
